Hachimantai City - On the road to becoming a wonderful city [Leisure]

Leisure Sports are big in Hachimantai City. In the “green season” you have soccer and rugby, while there are snow sports in winter. Hachimantai City is your sports social scene.

Winter sports mecca: the heavenly “Aspirin snow”, very fine, powdery snow (like the crystals of an Aspirin) is our treasure

Within the vast beauty of Hachimantai City there are four ski hills.  Hachimantai City, hometown of 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics gold medallist MIKATA Rei’ichi, is known across Japan as a winter sports mecca.  With the only ski jump in the prefecture, the Tayama Ski Resort prides itself on hosting many groups and interschool ski races.

Host to numerous national-level ski competitions

Promoting soccer and rugby together with Unsommet Iwate Hachimantai in the heat of the green season

The Unsommet Iwate Hachimantai soccer club makes its base in Hachimantai City and is headed by the president of Ikoi no Mura Iwate hot springs resort, TAKAHASHI Yoshitoshi.  As a club team very closely associated with the region, its season kicked off with a number of graduates of the local Tairadate High School among its players.  The players are all very involved with the community by coaching elementary school soccer and through its soccer school.

The city is also supporting the promotion and popularization of rugby. “Sportsmanship” and “gentlemanship” are the key words of the rugby fest “In Hachi Mantai” held at the Kamiyoriki Grounds.  The event is gaining in popularity and anyone can participate.

A natural grass soccer pitch nestled in the great outdoors: ASPA’s approach

Owners from the Hosono guest house district pooled their resources to create ASPA Fields.  Surrounded by nearby birch forests, it is a soccer pitch situated in the cool highlands, and used by over 30,000 people annually. It is one of the symbols of the Appi highlands.  Ground was broken on the project in 1996, and opened in 1998 with three pitches.  Presently, five pitches are ready for use by sports youth groups, club teams, middle and high school soccer teams and training meets.
